                                              It is your business!

Like any other business, you need to be as professional as possible. As soon as you realize that you are running a business the better. Yes, you are in a creative industry but if you look from a business standpoint you are going to be a lot more successful!
It comes down to this one fact that your writing is a business, especially if you are self-publishing. You are doing everything from the writing of the product to marketing it. You need to treat this as a business!  The more people that get to see your book the more sales you will make. You have to promote like a business.

Advertising

Now, unfortunately, as erotica writers, Amazon ads are closed to us! Boo! But then maybe not! Amazon ads cost money and a lot of people that first start writing don't actually have a lot of money or any at all to spend on marketing advertisements. There are other sites out there that will advertise erotica for a fee if you have the means to pay.
There are book promotion sites that allow erotica on them for free. iAuthor allauthor and Toplesscowboy are good examples where you can advertise your work, they also have paid options but at the time of writing this I have not explored those as of yet but when I do finally pay for advertising I will write a review.
There are many sites out there and I would recommend putting your writing on as many as possible. It won't do any harm if you join ten free sites and only get ten customers that is still ten more sales that have an opportunity to turn into more.

You may have written your story or your book and published it through KDP and now you are waiting for sales.

 Volume

I will say it again and again! The key to selling erotica on Amazon is volume! The more stories or books you publish the more money you will make. Just like any other business the more merchandise you have the more sales you are going to make!

Supply and Demand

Is there a demand for your supply? Can you supply the demands of the customers? Aiming for the top twenty! One word NICHE you need to get the right one. Write for sales meaning you have to write what is popular! I recently saw a post an erotica writer saying they wanted a certain category in erotica and it wasn't even on Amazon and how the writer wanted this niche of erotica so he/she would write a story in that new subcategory. There is a reason why nobody is writing those kinds of stories and that reason is very simple it either isn't popular or is too niche as in only one or two people are interested in it.

What is in the top 20 in erotica on Amazon? Are taboo daddy stories popular? You need to be in the right area. Sure you can write books and stories that you want to write but don't be surprised when they don't get into the top 20 or even the top 100 and if they do get into the top then great that means what you like writing is also in demand!

Investing in your Business

I have already mentioned advertising and promoting now when you do start making some money from your writing then consider paying bookbub to market your next book. I personally would not market a short story with them but that is my own choice.

Artwork I am sure you are doing a good job on your own book covers but I would think about getting someone to create book covers for you to give them that little more professional look unless of course, you can and enjoy actually making them yourself.

In Conclusion

Treat your writing like a business
Promote your writing
Write what is popular
Invest in your writing

My worst nightmare as an erotica writer has come true!

My worst nightmare as an erotica writer has come true! Recently I have been getting some people messaging me on social media not understanding that I write about sex, including threesomes, foursomes, bisexual experiences, cuckolding, and so on  BUT  I do  NOT  participate in these activities! Well, I say some people mostly men sending me often rude and disrespectful messages and a few unwanted pictures. There was even an instance of my partner getting abuse by a woman during a discussion because I write erotica! When he called her on what she meant by what she was implying as it was nothing to do with what they were talking about she quoted one of my stories! The good point about this is that the part of the story she was referencing was about halfway through the tale so she must have paid for it or read it on KU.  The Difference Between Fantasy And Reality! This was my worry when I started writing erotica that people might think I am speaking from experience rather than just making st

How To Sell Erotica?

That is a good question! A lot of people don't actually realize how hard it is to sell a story or a book                                                             Social Media   I know, this is what every single blogger etc says. And they would be right. It is true social media is a very powerful marketing tool. You don't need to have hundreds of thousands of followers because of how social media works your post can be spread to hundreds of thousands of people even if those accounts don't follow you. A lot of people think you need 1000s of followers to use social media effectively to market your writing. But actually, you only need a few people that have large amounts of followers that follow you! Case in point my second week of publishing stories at the time I had just four short erotic stories published. I decided to do a free promotion on Amazon. Because it was free! I was dreaming people would download it and give me fame and then they would buy my o
